These are the stops we actually run, with dwell times drawn from how the day behaves on the road. The three nav anchors — Gateway of India, Marine Drive and Bandra — sit in sequence. Optional temples are marked as optional because they cost clock time you may not have on a Pune return.
Traffic is the itinerary
A “full city” day is 8 to 10 hours of sitting in the vehicle and walking between photo points. It is not seven monuments before lunch. Avoid planning Gateway at 09:30 on a weekday if you are coming off the Expressway late, and avoid joining the return to Pune between 17:30 and 21:00 if you can help it. South Mumbai to Bandra is often 45 to 90 minutes by itself. We keep wide windows rather than promising a clock.
Gateway of India & Colaba
The natural starting point if you arrive from Pune via the Expressway and come in through the island-city approach. The Gateway itself is a photo halt, not a long indoor visit. Colaba Causeway, the Taj Mahal Palace facade and the harbour edge sit within a short walk, so the vehicle usually waits nearby rather than circulating. This is also the ferry jetty for Elephanta — we do not sell boat tickets, and adding the island turns the rest of the city loop into a different day.
Marine Drive & Girgaon Chowpatty
The Queen's Necklace is best as a slow drive plus a short walk at Girgaon Chowpatty, not as a two-hour halt. Mid-morning is clearer for photographs; late afternoon light is prettier but you pay for it in traffic. There is no ticket and no queue — dwell time is entirely your choice. Most groups stop for a stretch, a snack and a few frames, then continue north.
Haji Ali Dargah
Optional, and honest about access: the causeway to the dargah is tide-dependent and is sometimes closed for weather, maintenance or crowd control. We cannot promise a walk out to the shrine on any given day. If the causeway is open, it is a worthwhile 30 to 45 minute halt on the way north. If it is closed, we skip it without padding the day with a substitute we did not agree.
Siddhivinayak, Prabhadevi
Optional darshan at Shree Siddhivinayak. Queue time is outside our control — a quiet weekday morning can be under half an hour, Tuesdays and festival days can run much longer. We do not sell special darshan passes. On a Pune-origin same-day return, pick either Haji Ali or Siddhivinayak, not both, or the evening Expressway run starts in peak traffic.
Bandra–Worli Sea Link viewpoint
A short photo halt at a public viewpoint, not a walk on the Sea Link itself. The crossing is the drive; the stop is for the frame. Timing matters: late-afternoon light on the cables is the usual request, but that window sits inside the city's worst traffic. We treat this as a 15 to 25 minute pause, then continue into Bandra.
Bandra — Bandstand & Bandra Fort
The second of the three nav anchors. Bandstand Promenade and the ruins of Castella de Aguada (Bandra Fort) sit on the same waterfront loop, with the Sea Link in the background. Linking Road and Hill Road are optional add-on walks if the group wants shopping rather than the fort. Parking in Bandra is slow; we plan dwell time around that, not around a fantasy of pulling up at the railing.
Juhu Beach
The usual last stop on a northbound loop before you either return to Pune or drop at a Mumbai hotel / airport. Sunset at Juhu is the postcard version; it also means leaving the city at the worst hour. If you are driving back to Pune the same night, a late-afternoon Juhu halt and an earlier Expressway join is the saner plan. Street food and beach time are your own expense.
How You Get There from Pune
Pune to Mumbai is 148 km via the Expressway, typically 2.5 to 3.5 hourseach way. The fares below are the published one-way drop — doorstep in Pune to an address in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane or CSMIA T1 / T2. They are not a city-sightseeing package. Use them when you only need to reach Mumbai; use the outstation per-kilometre card when the vehicle stays with you for the loop.

Sightseeing is a different quotation
If the chauffeur stays with you from Gateway through Juhu and then drives you home, that is an outstation day — kilometres, driver allowance and city parking — not the ₹2,800 one-way figure. Ask the tours desk for a written sightseeing quote. If you only need to be dropped in Mumbai and will tour on foot or by local cab, book the corridor fare and stop reading here.
Pune Origin Outstation, or an In-City 8-Hour Loop
The Maharashtra hub does not publish a Mumbai package duration, so we plan around how the city actually takes time: 8–10 hours in Mumbai on the ground. From Pune that sits on top of two Expressway legs. Already in Mumbai, it is a local day — we point you to/rental for published 8hr/80km packages rather than inventing a Mumbai hourly rate here.

Doorstep pickup in Pune
The chauffeur reaches your address in Pune or PCMC. An early start is what makes a same-day Mumbai loop possible. A 07:00 pickup puts you into the island city at the worst morning hour and steals the Gateway window.
Pune to south Mumbai via Expressway
About 148 kilometres on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai–Pune Expressway (NE2). Running time is 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on the ghats, Khalapur and the approach into the city. One tea halt is usual. This is the same corridor as our published one-way fares — but a sightseeing day is not a one-way drop, so it is quoted on the outstation per-kilometre card, not as ₹2,800.
South Mumbai loop
Gateway of India and Colaba first, then Marine Drive and Girgaon Chowpatty. Lunch is your own, usually around Colaba or Chowpatty. Elephanta is not in this window — the ferry round trip would consume the afternoon.
North to Bandra and Juhu
Optional Haji Ali (if the causeway is open) or Siddhivinayak, then the Sea Link viewpoint, Bandra Fort / Bandstand, and Juhu. On a same-day Pune return, choose one optional temple, not both. South Mumbai to Bandra can take 45 to 90 minutes by itself.
Return drive to Pune
Joining the Expressway in the late afternoon or early evening is the hard part of this format. Weekday evenings from Bandra or Juhu back to the Expressway approach can add an hour or more before you even hit the ghats. Doorstep drop in Pune is typically 20:30 to 22:30. If the group is tired, overnight in Mumbai is the kinder option — hotel is quoted separately, we do not publish a 2D/1N Mumbai package figure.

South Mumbai

Start at the Gateway so the harbour light is still useful and Colaba is walkable before the mid-day heat. Marine Drive is a drive-and-pause, not a long halt. This block matches the first two nav highlights and is the part of the day that actually works even when the rest of Mumbai is slow.

30–60 minutes each, only if you choose them
Neither stop is required for a city sightseeing day. Haji Ali depends on the causeway. Siddhivinayak depends on the queue. On the Pune-origin format, pick one. On the in-city format, both can fit on a weekday that is not Tuesday or a festival.
Bandra to Juhu

About 3–4 hours including traffic between them
This is the third nav highlight and the usual close of the loop. Distances look short on a map; they are not short at 16:00. We keep Juhu last so you can either watch a sunset and stay in Mumbai, or cut it short and join the Expressway before the evening peak if you are returning to Pune.

Is there a published flat fare for a Mumbai city sightseeing tour?＋
No. Our Maharashtra tour packages hub does not list a Mumbai sightseeing package with a duration or a price, so we do not invent a city-tour flat fare on this page. A Pune-origin full-day loop is quoted on our outstation per-kilometre rates: Sedan ₹13/km, Ertiga ₹16/km, Innova Crysta ₹22/km (250 km per day minimum average) and Tempo Traveller ₹32/km (300 km per day minimum average), plus driver allowance of ₹500 per day. If you are already in Mumbai, ask for a local 8hr/80km-style quotation — published local hourly packages are on our rental page and are Pune garage figures, not Mumbai city-tour rates.
What does it cost to reach Mumbai from Pune by cab?＋
The published one-way Pune ⇄ Mumbai corridor fares are ₹2,800 for an AC Sedan, ₹3,300 for an Ertiga SUV, ₹5,500 for an Innova Crysta and ₹17,000 for a Tempo Traveller. Sedan, Ertiga and Crysta fares include the Mumbai–Pune Expressway toll. Tempo is a flat drop with parking extra. Those figures are for a doorstep-to-doorstep drop, including CSMIA T1 and T2, not for a full-day city loop with the vehicle on standby.
How long is a Mumbai sightseeing day, really?＋
A full city loop — Gateway of India, Colaba, Marine Drive / Girgaon Chowpatty, then Bandra and Juhu, with one optional stop — is 8 to 10 hours of vehicle time plus walking. It is not a checklist you finish by noon. South Mumbai to Bandra alone can take 45 to 90 minutes depending on the hour. From Pune, add 2.5 to 3.5 hours each way on the Expressway, which makes the same-day return a 14-hour-plus day.
Can we do Elephanta Caves on the same day?＋
Only as a swap, not as an extra. The ferry leaves from the Gateway of India jetty, the island visit is several hours including waiting and security, and we do not sell boat tickets. Adding Elephanta replaces the Bandra–Juhu afternoon. It is a reasonable choice on the in-city format; it is a poor choice on a Pune-origin same-day return.
Will we see Haji Ali and Siddhivinayak as well?＋
Both are optional. Haji Ali depends on tide and causeway access — we cannot promise the walk out to the dargah. Siddhivinayak queue time varies sharply, especially on Tuesdays. On a Pune-origin same-day trip we recommend choosing one of the two so the evening Expressway run does not start in peak traffic. We do not sell special darshan passes.
Can the vehicle wait while we walk Colaba or Bandstand?＋
Yes. On both formats the chauffeur and the vehicle stay with you for the confirmed hours. Waiting at Gateway, Bandstand and Juhu is part of the day. What is not included is Mumbai parking at actuals, any local toll including the Sea Link if we use it, and extra hours beyond the window written in your quotation.
Should we return to Pune the same night or stay over?＋
If anyone in the group is a senior citizen, travelling with small children, or simply does not enjoy fourteen hours on the road, stay over. We can drop you at a Mumbai hotel or at CSMIA and quote the return as a separate one-way corridor fare (from ₹2,800). We do not publish a 2 Days / 1 Night Mumbai hotel package on this page because the Maharashtra hub does not list one.
