Practical Notes for a Nilgiri Tour

Where the tour starts

The five-day plan is written from Bangalore because most travellers fly or take a train in. If you would rather drive the whole way from Pune, we quote the road journey separately on per-kilometre outstation rates and extend the itinerary accordingly.

Weather and clothing

Ooty and Coonoor stay cool through the year and can get cold at night, especially between December and February. Carry a jacket even in summer. The monsoon months bring heavy mist on the ghats, which slows driving times.

Forest road timings

The Bandipur and Mudumalai stretch on the Mysore to Ooty leg has restricted night movement, so this leg is always scheduled during daylight hours in our plan.

Customising the circuit

Days can be added for Coorg, Wayanad or Kabini, or the pace can be slowed with an extra night in Ooty. Tell the tours desk what matters most and the driving order is rebuilt around it.

Got Questions?

Mysore, Bangalore & Ooty Tour FAQs

What does the Mysore, Bangalore and Ooty tour cost and how long is it?

The Mysore – Bangalore – Ooty Nilgiri Tour is a 5 Days / 4 Nights circuit starting from ₹15,800. The final figure depends on the vehicle category you choose and the exact routing, so our tours desk confirms a written quotation with kilometres, driver allowance and night halts itemised before anything is paid.

Is the Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train included in the package?

No. Toy train tickets are not included and we cannot promise them. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway between Ooty and Coonoor has very limited seats that are often booked out well in advance. We are happy to help you attempt a booking, and your vehicle covers the same Ooty to Coonoor route either way, so no sightseeing is lost if tickets are unavailable.

When is the best season to visit Ooty and Coonoor?

October to June is the most reliable window. The hills stay cool through the year, with December to February the coldest and clearest, and March to June pleasant compared with the plains. The monsoon months bring heavy mist and rain on the ghat sections, which is scenic but slows driving times and can hide the viewpoints.

How difficult is the drive from Mysore up to Ooty?

The Mysore to Ooty leg is roughly 125 km and takes four to five hours because of the forest stretch through Bandipur and Mudumalai and the hairpin-bend climb into the Nilgiris. Our chauffeurs drive ghat roads regularly and this leg is always scheduled in daylight, since night movement through the forest section is restricted.

Are hotels and entry tickets part of the package?

The package covers the private AC vehicle, chauffeur, fuel, and the driver allowance and night halt charges stated in your quotation. Hotels are arranged only if you specifically ask us to, and monument, garden and viewpoint entry tickets are paid directly by you at each site. Meals and personal expenses are also excluded.

Which vehicle should a family of six choose for this tour?

For six travellers on a five-day hill circuit we usually recommend an Innova Crysta at ₹22 per kilometre with a 250 km per day minimum average, because it handles the Nilgiri climb comfortably and carries luggage for a multi-city trip. An Ertiga at ₹16 per kilometre works if you are travelling light. Larger groups move to a Tempo Traveller at ₹32 per kilometre with a 300 km per day minimum average.

Can the itinerary start from Pune instead of Bangalore?

Yes. The published five-day plan begins in Bangalore because most guests fly or take a train in, but we regularly run the full road journey from Pune as well. That version is quoted on our outstation per-kilometre rates with additional travel days built in. Call the tours desk on +91 97650 66565 and we will map it out.
